Successful Shopping

So, I’m home! I bought the most beautiful Bible. I’m almost sure it will be my picture for Monday. I almost bought a second one, paperback just so I could have one nicely divided into 365 readings.

Do you have a Bible reading plan? I’ve been reading a Psalm, a Proverb and then a New Testament Chapter and an Old Testament Chapter. Unless the NT book has run out of date numbered chapters in which case I read two chapters from the OT instead. See, confusing. I’m thinking there has got to be a better way, LOL, even without a formal “plan”.

Oh, let me tell you about my Bible. It’s plain. On the inside I mean. Just some cross references, but no “explanations” “notes” or “commentaries”. Just God speaking for Himself. Imagine that.

My plan is not a very good one. Cause I forget most days to open the Bible unless I have homework for Bible study. I know. You can slap my hand with a wooden ruler. Usually when I read the Bible just to read it, I pray first for His teaching and then let the Bible fall open. Then I read.

Oh. Well no wonder we both live with a lot of frustration!

Actually that is just a smaller version of my whole day. I have no set schedule for anything. I think I am just starting to realize that being unscheduled is a terrible way to live your life. At least if you have a family. Remember I told you the other day that I craved a clean, orderly house? I think if I had started out using a schedule for keeping it that way years ago I wouldn’t be in the mess I am in now. Perhaps the best place to start would be with my Bible reading….every single day.

Yes. I can tell a difference since I started again. Especially on the days I mis ;)

You know… I think I may start doing a Bible study. There’s something to be said for reading the Bible in big chunks and getting an overview. And I have done that, several times. Now, I read it with my eyes and it doesn’t go any further, it’s like I don’t have to pay attention because I know what comes next.

But I think there also comes a time to nip off small bites and savor them, hide them, etc. I think that’s where I’m at. I don’t want “Bible” to just be something on my check list. I want it to be sweet communion.

Yes! That is why I love my Bible study so much. And getting other people’s perspective and chewing over what something means is always great. I think that one of the greatest things about Bible study is that we all have something to teach each other about the Bible. We are all students and teachers being led by one God.

  7. Cass Says:

Well, we had discussed doing a Bible Study together at one time. Do you want to do that? I have several good ones here… we may have some of the same ones?

  8. Ang. Says:

So sorry I didn’t get that you were asking if I wanted to do one. Sure, I would like to. My Tuesday study is ending in 2 weeks. It would be nice to do something over the summer. I am game for just about anything.

  9. Cass Says:

Well, you didn’t get it because I wasn’t asking until that last comment. But as I thought of it, i remembered we had discussed doing one. So, that’s a yes?

    Do you have any suggestions?
